Scottie Scheffler, the world's top-ranked golfer, finished the first round of the 2024 PGA Championship three shots behind the leaders. Scheffler shot a 2-under 68 on Thursday at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, leaving him tied for 23rd place.
The first round was led by Patrick Cantlay and Jon Rahm, who both shot 5-under 65s. Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, and Justin Thomas are among the other players within striking distance.
The PGA Championship is the second major championship of the year. Scheffler won the Masters in April, becoming the first player to win a major on the PGA Tour since Tiger Woods in 2019.
Scheffler will need to make up ground on the leaders in the second round on Friday. The second round is scheduled to begin at 7:15 AM ET.
Field List Announced
The PGA of America has announced the current field list for the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla. The field includes all of the top players in the world, including Scheffler, Cantlay, Rahm, McIlroy, Hovland, and Thomas.
The first round of the PGA Championship will start Thursday, May 16, at 7:15 AM ET. The tournament will be played over four days, with the final round scheduled for Sunday, May 19.
The PGA Championship is one of the most prestigious tournaments in golf. It is one of the four major championships, along with the Masters, the U.S. Open, and the British Open.
