The game, which is a sequel to the 2017 game Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, was revealed at The Game Awards 2019. Hellblade 2 is set in a Norse mythological world and follows the story of Senua, a Celtic warrior who is on a quest to rescue her lover from the underworld.

Hellblade 2 is an action-adventure game with a focus on narrative. Players will explore a variety of environments, solve puzzles, and fight enemies. The game will also feature a variety of stealth elements. Hellblade 2 is being developed for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
