The Impact of George Floyd and Black Lives Matter Protests a Year Later

A Year After the Death of George Floyd

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, was killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Floyd's death was captured on video and sparked widespread outrage and protests across the United States and the world.

The protests were the largest sustained racial justice protests in US history. They were marked by both violence and peaceful demonstrations, and they led to a national conversation about race and policing.

In the year since Floyd's death, there has been some progress in the fight for racial justice. Police departments have begun to implement reforms, and there has been a growing awareness of the systemic racism that exists in the United States.

The Ongoing Fight for Racial Justice

However, there is still much work to be done. The protests that followed Floyd's death have not solved the problem of racial injustice in the United States. Police continue to kill Black people at a disproportionate rate, and systemic racism continues to pervade all aspects of American life.

The fight for racial justice is an ongoing one. It will require continued effort and commitment from all Americans. We must all work together to dismantle the systems of racism that exist in our country.

Here are some ways that you can help:

  • Educate yourself about the history of racism in the United States.
  • Talk to your friends and family about race and racism.
  • Support organizations that are working to fight racial injustice.
  • Get involved in local politics.
  • Vote for candidates who support racial justice.

Together, we can create a more just and equitable society for all.
