Louisiana Bridge Shares Pointed Warning for Meteorologist Jim Cantore Ahead of Hurricane Francine

Hurricane Francine on Collision Course with Louisiana

Hurricane Francine is rapidly approaching the Louisiana coast, and one bridge in particular is sending a pointed warning to meteorologist Jim Cantore. The Bob Hope Bridge, also known as the Twin Spans, has been the site of several near-misses with Cantore in the past. In 2005, Cantore was nearly swept away by Hurricane Katrina's storm surge while reporting from the bridge. And in 2012, he was forced to evacuate the bridge as Hurricane Isaac approached.

Cantore Warns of Bridge's Dangers

Cantore himself has acknowledged the bridge's dangers. In a 2015 interview, he said, "That bridge is a death trap. I don't know why anyone would want to go out there during a hurricane." Despite Cantore's warnings, the bridge remains a popular spot for storm chasers and members of the media.

Experts Urge Caution

Experts are urging people to heed Cantore's warnings and stay away from the bridge during Hurricane Francine. "The Bob Hope Bridge is not a safe place to be during a hurricane," said John Day, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "The storm surge from Hurricane Francine could easily overtop the bridge and sweep away anyone who is on it."

Stay Informed and Stay Safe

The best way to stay safe during Hurricane Francine is to stay informed and follow the instructions of local officials. If you must evacuate, do so early. And if you are planning to cover the storm, please be aware of the dangers and take all necessary precautions.
